Safety City is a two-acre complex surrounded by the Mississippi Fire Academy near Jackson. It serves as a training center for natural gas operators, other utility operators and damage prevention stakeholders who are committed to public safety and damage prevention.
The facility was the vision of Mark McCarver, former Pipeline Safety Director in Mississippi. Mr. McCarver was actively involved in the Mississippi Damage Prevention Council (MDPC). The MDPC had been looking to create an environment to bring all stakeholders together. Mark was looking for a way to train gas operators in his state and the idea was born.
Safety City has been under construction since 2012 and the first training class will take place in 2016.
